Microsoft Xbox 360 Dashboard Update New Xbox Experience NXE

Top 8 Accessories for Your Xbox Kinect Experience
Along the new Kinect comes a host of new accessories to complete your gaming experience. The revolutionary technology used in the unit creates a new...
OK, I’ve had some time to sit down and finally check out the NXE or New Xbox Experience. I was first greeted by a group of Microsoft’s promised avatars and my first impression on this was that I was actually creating a pseudo representation of myself for my Xbox Live friends to associate with and I have to say, Its great Avatars are a great addition to the Xbox Live experience. I did not need to sign into Xbox Live to create my avatar though i did have to login to Xbox Live to download the update. After creating the pimp version of myself I was presented with a fresh new Xbox Live dashboard which at first didn’t feel like I thought it would. Though it only took me a few minutes to get my bearings on the new navigation mechanics. The feeling reminds me of the old style dashboard but if it was opened up with a fresh coat of paint. Once I had customized my new theme with an awesome city backdrop and checking out how my friends avatars turned out. It was time to checkout the new NetFlix feature, oh yea NetFlix on the Xbox360 is like having a movie rental store inside the Xbox360. I chose to pay the $8.99 a month for the smallest plan which offers 1 physical movie out with unlimited instant plays online just to try it out (It comes with a free trial period but you still have to give them your CC information. NetFlix on my Xbox360 was the main hype for me wanting to get this update, the avatars ware awesome, the new look is great at least and the many of smart little functions that Microsoft has added make it a solid feeling while zooming around your Xbox. Of course there has to be something wrong right? I mean, it is Microsoft after all, well. There were no real interruptions during my experience so far except for the first 30 minutes I was exploring, I started getting bombarded with “service unavailable” messages but I’m betting that’s cause of the sheer amount of people who probably skipped chores and work to get this, or maybe I’m alone on that one. heh. The Xbox360 in my home is the center of all entertainment aside from browsing YouTube (Browser please) So with the addition of NetFlix, the new interactive avatar and spiffy looking interface have only strengthened my satisfaction with the console. I’ve personally owned all three of the mainstream consoles (Xbox, PS3, Wii) but honestly, the Xbox360 is at least to me the current king of entertainment. Don’t think of me a Xbox360 fanboy, I enjoy whatever gives me the best experience. After all, I didn’t enjoy being overcharged for a console that technically is of no use until 2010 or a console that feels like its whole marketing strategy is a huge gimmick, I chose the console that proudly wares their BSOD shirts and knows all about the three finger salute not because I hate PS3 (I love Metal Gear and plan on buying a Ps3 for that game) But because Xbox360 has actual funding for their online experience so it is obviously a richer experience. If you’d like feel free to add me to your Xbox Live friends list, my gamertag is Massphrossen.

Play Backup Xbox 360 Games Without a Mod Chip

Years and years ago when the Xbox 360 first hit the stores it seemed as if Microsoft was happy that their system seemed 100% copyright protected and was unbreakable. Frankly who can blame them, they’re a huge company and the more games we purchase from them the better even if this includes us paying twice or even three times for the same game because of an accident which may have lead to the destruction of the game disk, or even if you didn’t damage the disk repetitive use can still cause games to wear down and fail to work.

For the hardcore gamer like you and I however this isn’t acceptable, I mean if we buy a computer game we should be able to take steps to protect our self from having to purchase it again in the event we damage the game. The first system that came into place for allowing us to backup computer games required a modulation chip or mod chip for short.

The mod chip then had to be soldered onto the Xbox360′s motherboard to allow the gamer to play a copied game. This wasn’t an option for most people as many of us myself included have no idea how to solder a mod chip onto another component inside a video game system.

Thankfully today the whole process to backup Xbox 360 games is a lot easier and only involves a blank disk, the original computer game, software and a step by step tutorial on how to get started so you can copy your computer games right away.

The Squabble Between PlayStation 3 Vs Xbox 360

If you are a serious console gamer, then you are most likely to choose between these Goliath’s of the video game industry. For years, even before either of these were released, biter squabbles raged over which was better, or which had the best games. Today, several years after the release of both, people can’t help but discuss which they prefer. I know people that couldn’t decide between them, so their answer was to just buy both But for most people, that is a luxury that they can’t afford, bringing us neatly back to our age old squabble, which is better, Sony’s PS3 or Microsoft’s Xbox 360?

In the following article we will try to compare them in several different categories, whilst trying to remain unbiased. But ultimately only you know which you prefer, so which do you think?

So your stuck, you want to buy a games console but you’re stuck between buying a PS3 or a Xbox 360. Well let’s look at them under certain categories.

Price

Money Usually the main reason why people choose between the two. The price of both consoles has fluctuated over the years since each came out. Though this has been made a bit more complicated by the fact that you can buy different versions of each, which contain a differing size of hard drives.

Currently here are the versions that you can buy for an approximate price at today’s prices;

PS3

160GB……196-230. ($318-374). (230-270)
320GB……240-270. ($390-440). (282-318)

Xbox 360

4GB…….120-180. ($195-292). (141-212)
250GB…..160-190. ($260-310). (188-223)

Prices obviously vary from shop to shop, and currency to currency, and you can buy console bundles with certain games included for slightly more. My advice would be to shop around and find the best price/bundle for you

But what are you paying for?

Graphics

This category is pretty important if your a gamer, and these two next generation consoles don’t disappoint. Both offer amazing graphics, often leaving you awestruck at some of the fine detail that you can see in game. But which console has better graphics than the other? Well fanboys from each side will claim that theirs is the best performing. Sony has often been credited as having more superior graphical output, but that is unfortunately not true But before the 360 fans cheer, neither has the Xbox360. It’s pretty much a dead heat in this category. Games developers will testify that the XBox 360′s Xenos GPU has more computing power than the PS3′s RSX GPU, so therefore it should offer slightly better graphics, but the difference is hardly noticeable and is often affected by other factors. These include the TV that you are playing on and simply the quality of the game that you are playing.

Despite original misconceptions, both consoles tie in this category.

Media

So apart from the obvious games that you can buy and play for the named console, what else can you do with it? Well let’s look at each console separately;

PS3 Media

The PS3 offers backwards compatibility with both PSX and PS2 games, allowing gamers to play their old games. The PS3 supports Blu-Ray and DVD, which means that the console can double as a Blu-Ray player allowing you to watch films in full high-definition. You can also listen to your music by playing you’re CDs on it. Due to the massive amount of hard drive space available, music, films, photos, etc can all be uploaded and stored for later viewing. The PS3 is online and has an integrated browser, so as long as you have access to broadband connection, you can surf away on most websites on you’re tele. And if you own a PSP, it has an interconnectivity feature allowing you to download/upload between the two.

Xbox 360 Media

Well, maybe I should have written about this one first Additional media isn’t the 360′s strongest selling point. You can play old Xbox games on the new Xbox 360, but you have to save them to the internal hard drive, which means that you can’t just insert the disk and play, as it is not compatible. You can play your CDs on it. When the 360 was originally released, the whole Blu-Ray vs HD DVD was going on, and the 360 plumped for the later. It was a gamble that didn’t pay off for them since Blu-Ray won, therefore you can’t watch blu-ray films on your 360. But, is that really so much of a problem? You can still watch DVDs on it and the switch over from DVD to Blu-Ray is pretty slow, whilst a blu-Ray film is currently considerably more expensive. The 360 is online but doesn’t have an unbuilt browser. It does allow you to chat with your mates on MSN though.

In summary, the PS3 wins hands down in this category. Yes, the PS3 is more expensive, but you get a lot more for your money. You could say that when you buy a PS3, you’re getting a free Blu-Ray player included. But then again, if you are just interested in playing games, then maybe the 360 is better for you

War on the Nintendo Wii

Well the Nintendo Wii was a huge hit that took both Sony and Microsoft a bit off guard. This year is the year of the fight back. The PS3 is launching it’s counter with it’s new Move controller, whilst the Xbox 360 has released the Kinect. Both offer different solutions and possible developments for unique games.

The Move looks basically like a neon microphone that is tracked by the PlayStation Eye, calculating where it is and translating that movement into the game you are playing. This could be used as anything from a sword to a tennis racket. But if we are honest, it is basically just a trackable Wii controller.

The Kinect is an additional box that will sit on top of you’re tele and acts as a replacement to a conventional controller. It works by using a camera so the user can interact with the 360 by using gestures and sounds to play the game. Again if we are honest, this is basically a PlayStation Eye. Microsoft’s counter to the Wii is to copy the Eye A lot of people have had negative comments to the Kinect, mainly because of the restrictions that are put upon the user. The user can’t sit down, has to be in a well lit room with enough room to be stood at least 6ft from the screen.

So, the PS3s Move offers a better alternative to the Wii. This will allow developers to create more Wii like games for the PS3. The Kinect allows the user to stand in their living room and flap around like a idiot, all for 100

Online Gaming

No longer is online gaming solely just for PC gamers. Both of these consoles offer online play for a variety of different games. Just add your friends to your friend list and you can chat and play against them. Both consoles offer the very addictive achievement function, now that Sony followed in Microsoft’s footsteps, which allows you to unlock medals/badges by completing certain tasks in game. These achievements are recorded on your online profile and can be showed off to your friends.

The quality of playing online can be a talking point. The PS3 has a reputation for being a bit buggy online, whilst the Xbox 360 has had much better feedback on it’s online gaming.

Both Sony and Microsoft offer an online shop, accessible through the consoles interface, to allow games to be downloaded. This also includes other content, including films, game demos, tv shows, themes, wallpaper, photos, comics and much more. The PlayStation Network Store and the XBOX Live Arcade both offer a wide selection to their online content, with an increasing amount of indie games like Braid and PixelJunk. The XBLA tends to offer more classic games to download than the odd PS1 game that the PSN puts up, which is annoying if you like some of the classics of the 90s era. This does seem to be changing slowly, with Sony putting more up every month.

To summarise, the Xbox 360 wins this category. It less buggy online play and it’s better back catalogue of games on the XBLA puts it marginally ahead of the PS3.

Games

The most important category of them all After all you are paying for a console to play games on, so what games are you going to play. More and more games are being produced to be played on both consoles, so the only way to analyse this category is to look at the console exclusive games.

PlayStation 3 Exclusives – 2011

- Little Big Planet 2
- Killzone 3
- Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
- Resistance 3
- Infamous 2
- SOCOM 4
- Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One
- Yakuza 4
- Twisted Metal
- NinoKuni
- Sorcery (Move)
- Jouney
- PlayStation Move Heroes (Move)
- Ape Escape
- MLB 11: The Show
- Ico/Shadow of Colossus Collection
- The Last Guardian

And rumored, such as:

Final Fantasy Versus XIII
Agent
Starhawk
Syphon Filter

Xbox 360 Exclusives – 2011

- Gears of War 3
- XCOM
- Kingdoms
- Forza Motorsports 4
- StarWars Kinect (Kinect Game)
- Rise of Nightmares (Kinect Game)
- Codename D (Kinect Game)
- Project Draco
- Steal Battalion: Heavy Armor (Kinect Game)
- The Secret World
- Haunt
- Possible
- Perfect Dark
- Project Gotham Racing 5
- Mechwarrior 5
- Nuclear Dawn

You don’t need to be a veteran analyst to conceive from this list that decide PlayStation 3 is the clear winner out of the two. It’s a bit disappointing to see Microsoft opting for more Kinect based casual titles than giving something hardcore to the Xbox 360 community. As for PlayStation 3, it doesn’t get any better.

Conclusion

If this article had been written a couple of years ago, the Xbox 360 would have won. But the PS3 looks set to be king of 2011. It is more expensive, but you get a lot more for you’re money and the upcoming game releases for this year are so much better. You won’t be disappointed with the 360 as it’s a great console, but the PS3 has matured and gotten better.

Problems With Playstation 3

PlayStation 3 is the successor of PS2 and a strong competitor of Xbox360 and Wii. We are going to discuss some very common problems with PlayStation 3 and would like readers to adopt the DIY approach to solve them.

One of the most common problems which come up while playing is that the red light starts to flash and the console turns off itself. What actually happens is that the console gets overheated and turns itself off automatically. Kids and adults normally don’t care about the time as they are so indulged in playing which leads to this cut off. The simple solution would be to turn your PS off for about 1 hour.

It is also advisable to blow the inside of console with a blower to get rid of any dust and make sure that the room temperature is nice and cool. If even after doing these smaller steps, you feel like the problem sustains, you must consult with the manufacturer.

Another very common issue which has been reported is that when users are trying to download the updates they receive the message of DNS error 80710102. The simplest solution to this would be to disable the plug ‘n’ play option from the consoles router.

Some users have reported that their PS3 cuts off in between the play and the solution to this would be to contact the manufacturer as most likely the heat transfer compound has dried up and by contacting the manufacturer this would be easily replaced, provided all the warranty is intact.

Best PS3 Games Released in 2011: Favorites

The entire PlayStation 3 gaming industry has improved vastly due to this year’s video game releases which boast of 3D graphics. Graphics are emerging that are fast with very fluid movement, very lifelike and the landscapes are highly imaginative and stunningly beautiful. The major gaming companies have increased their time invested into improving game play with a range of innovative ideas applied during the making of this season’s new releases. For PlayStation 3 players who love their games to be challenging or fast and furious; these are my favorites for 2011.

1. SOCOM 4: US Navy Seals – The graphics are stunning and the gameplay will keep you engrossed for hours.

2. Killzone 3: – New characters have been added to this first person shooters game and the action is very fast. The 3D graphics result in very realistic characters.

3. MLB 11: The Show – Top quality, with the baseball playing experience feeling even more realistic due to the 3D effect. The gameplay has improved greatly in the best baseball simulation game ever produced.

4. Mortal Kombat 9: – This has got to be the best fighting game in the market. The gameplay has improved significantly, providing even more challenge to the players. Each character is fitted with two fatalities and the game is gorier than ever before.

5. Crysis 2: – The 3D graphics are spectacular in this release and the gameplay is drastically better, providing very interesting and enthralling gameplay.

6. Portal 2: – Portal 2 is a symbol of human ingenuity as the game will make you tap parts of your brain that you have never utilised before. The game if full of innovative puzzles wherein you would be required to use portal guns to open portals, solve puzzles and counter hazards such as gun turrets, toxins, toxic gas, giant pistons, and torrents of realistic gunfire. With a perfect mix of innovative gameplay and sharp comedy writing, Portal 2 defines itself as the best video game in the market to date.

7. Assassin’s Creed: – Revelations is due to be released on Nov, 15th 2011 for PS 3 and Xbox360 by Ubisoft, we had to mention this upcoming video game because it is set to bust all the charts that ever existed. The game will be playable in full 3D and includes the three protagonists from the previous games: Ezio, Altair and Desmond. New gameplay additions include an item called the hookblade, which can be used to zipline across the city or grab enemies to yank them in for a combo attack. The hookblade reportedly speeds up navigation by around 30 percent. Along with the hookblade, Ezio will also have 300 different bomb variations at his disposal, which will be craftable. Players will be able to customize their characters’ appearance and weapons, as well as start a guild. New multiplayer modes will be added to the already existing modes, including “story-oriented quests”, as well as a much requested Capture the Flag mode. Sounds good
