Genesis Studio

Genesis Studio is a recent project (well, actually, it’s more a project title that anything else) based on a previous experimentation with audio emulation of the Yamaha YM2612 FM soundchip featured on the Sega Megadrive (aka Genesis). I actually used the YM2612 emulation core from MAME which I tweaked a little to separate the six channels from the soundchip and plot them on some scopes. Then I added support for the SN76496 (inherited from the Master System) which some good game actually use aside the YM2612. To enjoy some nice Megadrive music, I wrote a VGM file player and added some features to mute each of the ten channels. I’m also able to stop the data stream from the VGM while keeping the YM2612 emulation running which allows to send arbitrary instructions to the chip and play some notes with the actual instruments of a song. To be more fun, I used the RtMidi library to add MIDI support to the whole thing.

I can’t really tell what Genesis Studio will be about but probably a sort of really nice tool to play VGM files with additional playback features, MIDI support, nice visualization, YM2612/SN76496 advanced debugging, VGM analysis, sample export, etc… based on Qt, FMOD, RtMidi

Canabalt Now Available for Commodore 64

Perhaps the king of the auto-running genre, Canabalt really stood out on iOS as a game that was not only fun, but controlled extremely well on the buttonless platform. Before that it existed as a free-to-play Flash game on computers, and now it’s been ported once again, only this time, it’s available for a platform that debuted 30 years ago.

C64anabalt is a conversion of the indie game for Commodore 64. The port was developed by Paul Koller as an entry in the 2011 RGCD C64 16KB Cartridge Game Development Competition. It’s now available for sale publicly, but due to the size restrictions of the ROM — 16KB just isn’t a whole lot by today’s standards, or last decade’s, for that matter — there are two versions available. One contains a conversion of the original score by Danny Baranowsky, while the other contains music from indie game ThrustBurst.

C64anabalt

The game will work on NTSC C64 systems but lags because of technical restrictions. It plays “fractionally faster” on PAL hardware, which it was specifically designed for, but the issues on NTSC systems are said to not “severely affect the play of the game.”

Copies of the game can be ordered here. Those in the U.K. will pay 19 GBP ($29.43), while those elsewhere in the world will pay only a bit more at 20 GBP ($30.97). It’s pricey for a game that could be played for free on a computer or for $2.99 on iOS, but that’s the price to pay for what appears to be a pretty faithful port.

CES 2012: Klipsch goes all in on Apple’s Airplay – MacDailyNews – Welcome Home

“‘We feel like Airplay is going to be the next media,’ Product Manager Gavin Reeg said during Klipsch’s 30 minute press event,” Erfon Elijah reports for Cult of Mac. “Then it was VP of Product Development Mark Casavant’s turn (pictured above), and he made it very clear: their future is in Apple’s Airplay.”

“Klipsch is moving to support Airplay in many (if not all) of the Audio Systems they release in the next 9-12 months, and are also seriously considering adding support to other product lines they own, such as the Energy brand,” Elijah reports.

“As an iPhone user, I like that audio companies are finally integrating Airplay support into their products. I’m carrying Spotify and my iTunes collection with me everywhere I go, and before Airplay, if I wanted to hear my music without using headphones, it meant I had to dock or tether my iPhone to something with a wire. I hate doing that,” Elijah reports. “Headphones; speakers; Apple TV; Airplay is fantastic because I get to easily point where my music should be playing. Plus, I still get to keep my iPhone where it I like it: in my pocket.”

Do you still buy your console games from the local shop? Now the playstation 3 has been released the games for older consoles are cheaper than ever, especially used games. But is this the cheapest and easiest way to get your games? Walking to your local gaming shop only to find they haven’t got the game you’re after?

These days, with broadband internet becoming more and more popular it’s a lot cheaper and easier to download your ps2 games online. It’s a lot easier to click a few mouse buttons then burn the game to CD than it is to go buy the game. You could be downloading a new game whilst you’re playing another one

But is this legal? Downloading from certain P2P (person to person) networks and from certain sites does break copy write laws. So you have to be careful where you download from. But some sites, you can pay a small one time fee (about the price of one game) and get lifetime access to there constantly updating database full of PS2 Games. Some even have music and movies as well.

These sites are easy to use, you just log on, search for the game your after, click to download then burn off to CD. Simple So which sites should you use? There are a lot out there you should definitely avoid. Some have out dated database, which do not get updated regularly, so you will not be able to get the newer games.

High Grenadier [ハイグレネーダー] Game Sample — PC Engine CD

High Grenadier…I have this game factory-sealed and I paid a penny for it AFTER shipping; yes, you heard right. I won a base bid auction that began at one cent and it had free shipping. The game is said to be fairly uncommon too, so I thought this was a good thing at the time (though in reality, it isn’t nearly the best purchase I’ve made despite how cheap it was…not even close). It’s still factory sealed because I decided to “get” the game elsewhere and play it without opening it. You know what? It’s a good thing I didn’t open it; if I did, I might not be able to turn a profit after this. On the surface, High Grenadier seems like a classic old-school strategy game. The visuals are very basic, but that’s not such a big deal. The music (what little there is) is actually pretty neat. The gameplay…will SEEM complex to a degree to either the Japanese-illiterate or to those who haven’t played this game for at least thirty minutes. You start with six commanders and various armored machines to do battle with. The game will start you with three commanders on the battlefield and you can move them to take over the yellow areas (the enemy territory). If you have extra armored units, you can move more than three people by taking one of your reserve (not in use) commanders out of your home base (the spot you start on) and giving them armored units. The third command on the top right is to move. The middle command on the top is to move and attack/liberate. The top left command is

Where Can I Buy Cheap PSP Games?

If are the lucky owner of a PSP, you have probably wondered at some point – Where can I buy cheap PSP games?. It can get expensive to buy all the new releases along with movies, music and other files that you can use on your PSP. With this in mind, let’s go over a couple of options you have to find PSP games without forking over a truckload of cash.

The key to getting cheap PSP games is to look for PSP game downloads. In my opinion, that’s one of the best features about the PSP. Unlike other games systems, you don’t have to run over to the store whenever you want a new game. You can find the newest and most popular games online and start playing them within minutes.

When looking for PSP downloads, you will typically have three different options. Let’s look at each one – the first two I don’t typically recommend but option #3 is the real winner.

Option #1 – Free download farm websites

There are some website that claim to offer free PSP downloads that you can use on your PSP. Recently a lot of these websites have been shut down as they are famous for distributing viruses, spyware and adware. The problem is that you can never be sure what you are downloading.

As an example, you may think you are downloading Madden 2008 only to find out that it is something completely different. It’s extremely annoying having to wait a full day (the download speeds on these sites are awful) only to find out it isn’t what you were hoping for. Another common complaint is that the files end up being corrupted, meaning that the games won’t actually work on your PSP.

Option #2 – Free membership sites

These websites give you a free membership that allows you to download PSP games. However, the downloads aren’t actually free. They will either charge you a monthly fee or a fee for each download you do. Although this isn’t a bad option, the next one will give you a lot more bang for your buck.

Option #3 – PSP download membership sites.

Your best bet is to look for a website that offers unlimited downloads for signing up as a member. You will be charged a small fee (usually $35-$50) and will then be able to download all the games, movies, software, music etc. that you want. You are only charged the one time and then have a lifetime membership.

There are no per-download fees or monthly fees.

What always amazes me is that you can find all of the newest releases and most popular games and movies with your membership. They are the same games you find in the stores but you won’t have to pay each time you want to get one. The download speeds are fast and with your membership you get the software you need to transfer the files onto your PSP.

These websites pay good money to have access to all of these games and to maintain their databases so that you can get fast downloads that are guaranteed to work and be 100% virus and spyware free. It’s well worth paying the money to know their website will always work and that you literally won’t ever have to pay for a new game again.

You can find out how to get a risk-free trial for this type of website at pspmaxed.com. Once you start using this type of service you will wonder why you ever payed full price for a game before

Next time you hear someone ask How can I buy cheap PSP games?, tell them about the membership PSP game download websites. It’s a great way to save cash and keep your PSP loaded with the newest and best games. All the best
