A young gaming fan shows off his Nintendo love with a domino montage that clocks in at around 3 minutes and 30,000 fallen dominoes. If you’ve ever held a controller or whiled away the hours of a long trip with a handheld device, than you’ve probably played a Nintendo game in one form or another. The Japanese gaming company has been making toys since 1889 but it didn’t begin gathering legions of fans until the 1980s with the Nintendo Entertainment System. They’ve built up a lot of love, and several memorable characters over the last 25 or so years, and its hard to encapsulate how many icons the company has produced. That didn’t stop 15-year-old “ShanesDominoez” from giving it a shot. Using 30,000 dominoes, Shane set up various domino images of Nintendo consoles, controllers, cartridges and iconic logos. Classics like Mario and Pokemon give way to Zelda and, for some reason, Sonic (according to the ShanesDominoez YouTube page, he included Sonic because Sega’s blue racer has been on Nintendo for more than decade now). Sonic first appeared on a Nintendo system in 2001 when Sonic Adventure 2: Battle showed up on the Gamecube–2001 was also the year that Sega stopped making consoles. Collapsing dominoes is always a fascinating watch, and we particularly enjoyed some of the more innovative structures that Shane put together. Make sure to keep an eye out of the Nintendo 64 symbol and Sonic’s rings.

Nintendo Reveals Worldwide Hardware Sales – Neogamr
Following details of its first quarter financial results published yesterday, Nintendo officials have given a detailed breakdown of worldwide hardware and software sales across its various formats for the three months ended June 30th, 2006. The figures are stated as sold rather than shipped, and indicate that an impressive 2,340,000 units of both the original Nintendo DS and new DS Lite were sold in Japan in the last three months, compared to 1,420,000 in Europe and the rest of the world and a notably smaller total of 780,000 in North America. Software sales for the format were put at 9,080,000 units for Japan, with 4,890,000 units sold in Europe and 4,380,000 units in North America. The lifetime-to-date figures for both iterations of the Nintendo DS hardware are now put at 9,240,000 in Japan, 6,130,000 in Europe and 5,900,000 in North America. This adds up to a worldwide title of 21,270,000 units after around a year and a half on sale. If accurate, these figures suggest that Nintendo's aim to sell a total of 17 million units of the Nintendo DS worldwide during the company's current financial year are entirely plausible. News source: Gamasutra As would be expected, Nintendo's other formats did not enjoy any similar level of success, with just 120,000 units of the Game Boy Advance sold in Japan, 500,000 sold in Europe and 700,000 sold in North America. While North America remains Nintendo's softest market for the Nintendo DS, the Game Boy Advance still dominates portable sales there, with just 880,000 units of software sold in Japan, 2,360,000 in Europe and a significant 4,990,000 in North America. Lifetime totals for the entire Game Boy Advance family of consoles (including the Game Boy Advance SP and Micro) are put at 16,600,000 in Japan, 20,750,000 in Europe and 38,450,000 in North America, for a global total of 75,810,000 units. The lifetime totals for the GameCube format are 4,010,000 in Japan, 4,720,000 in Europe and 12,270,000 in North America, for a total of 21,000,000 worldwide. By comparison, worldwide shipments for the PlayStation 2 are put at around 103,000,000 with the original Xbox on around 22,000,000 units.

Miyamoto also let slip that a third installment of the Pikmin franchise will be revealed at E3, as well. The last we saw of Pikmin was when the second game was launched in 2004 on the Nintendo GameCube, aside from a port to the Wii that made basic use of the motion-sensitive remote. Miyamoto was in Paris at the time of the interview to promote the Nintendo-designed 3DS tour guide at the Louvre; the initial report – translated by Eurogamer Spain – read: “Miyamoto, who smiled during all the interview – even when he wants to change the topic because 'it's not the moment' to talk about Wii U – thinks that the experience and the new game modes of this new console won't be 'easily replicated in other devices', which will allow them to escape the new tablet competition. “The creator advances that at the next E3, the biggest video games show, which is celebrated in Los Angeles in June, Nintendo will present a new Super Mario for this platform, in which you will combine the TV screen with the screen in the controller.” The legendary Nintendo developer went on to explain that he is currently working on several projects but jokingly said he doesn't think he can talk about them all just yet. He added: “Some are small but important projects for Wii U. Also on a new Pikmin, which will take advantage of the new HD screen resolution, and on Luigi's Mansion for 3DS.” Previously, Nintendo has confirmed that the new Wii U console will be revealed at E3 in June and will go on sale in time for Christmas.

Dreamcast game Seaman being revived on 3DS • News • Eurogamer.net
Oddball Dreamcast game Seaman is being revived for release on 3DS, a Japanese newspaper report has revealed. Seaman, which tasks players with caring for a curious fish-beast pet, will be the first of several old franchises from third-party publishers that Nintendo wants revived for 3DS, according to Nikkei (via Andriasang). No word was given on whether this means the fresh Seaman will be a remake or a sequel. Released on Dreamcast in 1999, bizarre creature care sim Seaman stars an odd-looking fish with a man’s head. Players interacted with their aquatic friend via the rarely-used Dreamcast microphone. The game was narrated by Leonard “Spock” Nimoy. Seaman creator Yoot Saito went on to create the microphone-controlled pinball/real-time strategy Odama for GameCube, which was possibly just as weird.

Canine Superstar Uggie Lands Epic Role as Nintendo’s First-Ever “Spokesdog”
REDMOND, Wash., Feb 08, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) –In a move that’s got tails wagging from Hollywood to Manhattan, Nintendo of America is teaming up with Uggie, the talented Jack Russell terrier known to moviegoers as the canine co-star of The Artist. Starting today, Uggie will sink his teeth into a memorable new role as Nintendo’s first-ever “spokesdog,” spreading the word about the interactive fun of nintendogs(TM) + cats for the Nintendo 3DS(TM) hand-held system. To help celebrate February as Responsible Pet Owners Month, Uggie will lend a paw by showing how the game includes valuable tips on how people can maintain happy, healthy relationships with their furry friends in real life. Though he previously announced plans to retire after this year’s awards season, the chance to team up with Nintendo was too doggone good for Uggie to resist. Uggie is no stranger to the spotlight, having appeared in numerous television commercials and films during the last decade. As Nintendo’s spokesdog, he’ll appear alongside his owner Omar Von Muller to promote nintendogs + cats and the Pearl Pink Nintendo 3DS system, which offers a wide range of wireless features and entertainment experiences that can be enjoyed in 3D without the need for special glasses. In particular, Uggie and his owner will show consumers how nintendogs + cats can not only provide players with an adorable, customizable companion but also teach them skills that can translate to real-world dog or cat ownership. With February as Responsible Pet Owners Month, it’s the perfect time for this partnership. “Uggie didn’t have to sit up and beg for his role as Nintendo’s spokesdog,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “It’s truly our pleasure to work with a star of Uggie’s magnitude, especially to help animal lovers and portable gaming fans discover the fun of nintendogs + cats.” With nintendogs + cats, players can use the Nintendo 3DS system’s built-in touch screen, camera and microphone to interact with their dog or cat in amazing ways to form a lasting friendship. Players can feed, train and care for their choice of more than 27 breeds of puppies, and can also care for a variety of lovable kittens. If they take their Nintendo 3DS systems when going out, players can exchange Mii(TM) characters, puppies, kittens and presents with other nearby players via a wireless connection using the StreetPass(TM) feature. Nintendo will soon be adding a free playable demo of nintendogs + cats to the Nintendo eShop, so players can download the game and check it out at no cost.
