Teaching Kids Karate – 3 Games to Keep the Fun in Your Martial Arts Classes

If you are teaching kids karate and your classes are getting smaller and smaller, it’s time to take a good long look at what you are teaching your kids The last thing you want is to lose your teaching job because no one wants to attend your classes Here are the top 5 martial arts drills and karate games that kids will go crazy for and that will keep them coming back for more

1. CATCH YOUR TAIL – This game is easy and geared towards the very young student. It encourages agility and speed and laughter. Choose two students; one to be the head of the tiger and one to be the tail. Take a karate belt and tie it to the back of the belt of the tail student. Set your watch for 30 seconds and have the tiger head try to catch his tail. I’ve found this is a favorite when teaching kids karate.

2. THE CIRCLE OF DOOM – Get all kids into a circle with everyone spread out with both arms stretched out between them, far enough apart to not touch the kid next to them. Everybody settles into a horse stance with hands at hips, fists closed.

The instructor stands in the centre of the circle and slowly turns looking at each kid as you face them. When you are ready perform an attack against one of the kids so that they can do the block or counter that you have been teaching them.

As soon as their technique is finished move towards another kid on the outside circle and throw the same or a different attack for them to practice against. Don’t choose your victims in any order, just turn randomly and pick one out to approach.

When first teaching this, start your attacks slowly and tell them at the start of the game which attacks you will throw. Start with only 2-3 different attacks, as the kids become more comfortable with this game you can increase the number of attacks, the speed and the intensity of the contact you give and receive.

3. HORSE AND SNAKE RELAY – Students form two equal teams of three or more. Start and finish lines are marked 30-60 feet apart. The teams line up one behind the other spaced a couple of feet apart standing in a deep horse stance.

The student at the end of the line yells Snake, drops to the floor and crawls like a snake through the others legs until they are at the front of the line, they stand up in a deep horse stance and yell Horse which signals the student at the end of the line to do the same. Students continue crawling up the line until the whole team has passed the finish line.

The first team over wins.

Snooker legends Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor square up for fun at Stoke’s Victoria Hall

May 9 2012 by Simon Halewood, Crewe Chronicle

SNOOKER fans are being invited to relive the famous ‘Black Ball’ final of 1985 with its stars Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor at the Victoria Hall in Hanley next week.

The Snooker Legends tour, which sees idols of the game match up in a night of nostalgia, comedy and pure entertainment, stops in Stoke on Wednesday, May 16.

The Potteries showdown will be Davis’ only appearance on the tour, and he’s looking forward to taking on his old rival and pal once more.

Davis has made himself one of the biggest names in the game’s history, winning the World Championships six times, while also bagging a record 80 professional titles from 115 finals.

He was awarded an OBE for services to snooker in 2001.

And, even at the age of 54, he’s still going, and only a few of weeks ago he narrowly missed out on competing in this year’s Worlds.

Davis and Taylor will be joined at the Victoria Hall on May 16 by former UK champion and trick shot specialist John Virgo and female referee Michaela Tabb.

Tickets for the event are priced £20, to book call the box office on 0844 871 7649 or visit atgtickets.com/stoke.

Where to Find Cheap PS3 Controllers

Any gamer knows that the lifeline of the game is the controllers. Without the controllers, you have no game to play. You are just looking at the emblem on the screen. In addition to that, the most frustrating thing that a gamer can go through is a controller that isn’t working right. If you have a controller that is run down or needs a change, then you need to know where to find a controller fast and cheap.

Controllers are one of those types of accessories that can get quite expensive but you will still tolerate the price because you are anxious to play the game. However, you will need to have a place where you can turn to and get an emergency controller anytime.

The best place to find a cheap controller is in the swap meet (flee market). This is one of the best places to find a cheap controller on hand if you are going to look. However, most of these accessories are used and you will pay for a used price. Never the less, it is better than paying 30-40 dollars just for a controller. In most cases, you might pay 25 dollars for one in the swap meet.

If you are going to look online, you will want to look in sites like eBay or sale hoo. These are your best chances of scoring on a controller that are not tens of dollars. You can possibly find a controller that is less than ten dollars if you are savvy enough to find it.

Arcade Time Crisis 2 gun, pedal refitted for PS2 video • News • PlayStation 2 • Eurogamer.net

Remember Time Crisis 2 on PS2? Remember wishing the lightgun had recoil, as it did in the arcade? Remember instinctively stamping your foot to press the foot pedal, as you did in the arcade? Remember mapping the cover/reload button to the PS2 pad and putting it on the floor and pretending you were in the arcade?

Well wish no longer!

Joel Whybrow – better known to some as Retro Repair – has adapted an arcade Time Crisis 2 gun and foot pedal to work with the PS2 version of the game. Better still, he’s documented the whole conversion on video, which is embedded below. (If only he had a tripod, wistful sigh.)

Now when Whydbrow shoots, his gun clack-clack recoils. Now, when he wants to duck and reload, he releases the foot pedal. The fruits of his painstaking work are plain to see.

Whydbrow is on Twitter as @RetroRepair. His mission statement: “I love to bring old consoles and arcade games and hardware back to life, it makes me sad to see people trashing old consoles!”

Videos of his myriad retro refitting projects can be found on the Retro Repair YouTube channel.

How To Buy PlayStation 2 Console Cheaply

If you are looking to buy PlayStation 2 console cheaply there are several things that you can do to ensure that you get a high value gaming system. Although you want to save money you also want to be certain that you are getting a console that works. With a little extra measure of diligence you can get the gaming system at a fair price and be assured that it really works.

Avoid These Common Mistakes

While some thrift or second-hand stores do sell gaming system this is not always the best way to go. These establishments do not always have the resources or time to ensure that their electronic products are in tip-top condition. There is also generally no real warranty in place to ensure that if something goes wrong within the first several weeks or months after your purchase that you are able to get your money back.

If you do find a system here at a fair price it is a good idea to ask one of the staff to allow you to please try the system out. If they are willing to do so you can turn the system on, make certain that all cords, connectors, adapters and other accessories are not frayed and are in good working order. Unless there is a game to run however, you are essentially taking a risk. If the price proves worth the risk however, you may be able to get away with a pretty phenomenal price.

Smartest Places to Shop for a PS2

Many gaming stores offer reconditioned units and this is usually one of the best ways to go. This way you can get a good working unit quite inexpensively. You will also typically get a store issued guarantee of the product that will cover any problems that arise within the first thirty to sixty days following your purchase. Best of all, if the gaming store carries the PlayStation 2 it will likely have a broad range of used games that you can stock up on pretty cheaply.

You can also check out the numerous online suppliers that offer reconditioned consoles as well. This is also another stellar way to buy PlayStation 2 console, accessories and games. By reading consumer ratings and reviews you can find a stellar gaming supplier that offers quality products, firm guarantees and highly competitive rates.

Diablo II Ladder Reset Coming May 2nd

I’ve always aimed to get all the Elite sets for the 7 classes in D2, and almost every time I get anywhere near, they announce a ladder reset…Last ladder reset, I kept my characters (I usually deleted them all to remake them as ladder) and carried on doing runs for the set items. But not having the ladder only options available, such as item upgrades, ended up annoying me soundly, and after considering to remake all 7 chars for the 8th time, I finally took the big jump: I deleted every char and never remade them.

As I’ve said in other posts, I’ve had a good time with Diablo 2, but after having played Diablo 3 beta, there’s nothing left to keep me playing it.Ability to distribute stat points – 2 str, 2 dex, 1 vit until str/dex reqs are met, then vit for rest isn’t flexibility, it’s a nuisance. I know some builds require a different distribution, but they’re all set in stone.Skill points – bah, most skills don’t feel exciting before you’ve placed several points in them, so you feel underpowered in a game where it’s intended for the hero to be super awesome…My main hate is that you don’t feel you have a functioning character before the mid 30′s, if twinked, or 40′s if not. So if you subtract 35-45 from 99, you end up with a number fairly close to D3′s cap.

All of this is opinion, of course, but it’s mine and I’ll stick with it :)
