The Xbox 360 has a pretty impressive lineup of games at its disposal. Kinect reviews don’t always mention that when you buy Kinect, you also happen to be buying into a long lineage of great games. For this article, however, we’ll be focusing on more recent games. While nostalgia is great, there is just nothing like coming home from your game shop of choice with something your friends are still talking about, and having a bit of a honeymoon with it. So let’s get to a brief list of great modern games that’ll make your choice to buy Kinect a pretty easy one. Other than having a great name, this game boasts a very great reason to buy Kinect: a character who is renowned for his nimbleness and responsiveness. When you leap into the air, and he leaps in exactly the same way, you’ll feel what he feels. And when he dies, over and over again, you’ll feel a great workout. This works well with the rush you’ll get when you finally beat that one extremely hard level- you know the one, the one that taunts you time and again. until you own it. You knew there’s be a Halo game on here, so it might as well be the newest, the most beautiful, and the one that’ll leave you drooling to buy Kinect, just so you can experience the thrill of slaughtering the Covenant. and your friends. Nothing like a little fragging between pals, right? Kinect reviews couldn’t do justice to this game. Have you ever wanted to be a cowboy, going where you please and duking it out Wild West style? Well, now’s your chance, pilgrim Your Shape Fitness Evolved Imagine being able to do yoga whenever you want, and have someone on hand to check your form. This game will help with that, and then some. While there are plenty of games that will get you active (all of them, with the Kinect), this one is pretty likely to be the best if you don’t especially like sports. Sometimes a name really does say it all. Buy Kinect, pick up Vanquish, and bathe in your enemy’s blood. There are a lot of good times to be had when you’ve got a big gun in your hands- which is probably why most of the games on this list are shooters.

Newest Japanese Sales: Nintendo Destroys All
As always, Japanese firm Media Create has released its weekly sales data. This week’s trove of information covers the week from April 30th through May 6th, and has been translated by Andriasang. Nintendo 3DS continues to absolutely dominate the Japanese gaming market. Nearly 20,000 more 3DS units sold during this week in comparison to last week, totaling more than Vita’s overall sales during either week in question. PlayStation Portable is steadily outselling the handheld that was supposed to eclipse it, while PlayStation 3 continues to be the strongest home console in Japan.
While Nintendo is typically the big winner in software sales, this week represents a complete clobbering of its competition. Newer games like Mario Party 9 and Fire Emblem: Awakening join older, steady sellers like Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land to trounce just about every other company’s offerings. If anything, this week is the absolute epitome of Nintendo’s strength in its home market, and Sony’s comparative struggles. Overall, the Nintendo 3DS accounted for a staggering 11 games on the top 20 list, with Wii grabbing four more. PlayStation Portable had three games chart while PlayStation 3 had two games. No PlayStation Vita games charted, though it’s important to keep in mind that all Vita games are available digitally over the PSN. Media Create doesn’t count those numbers.

Farm owner fined after overlooking legal requirements
Date: 18 May 2012 Release No: HSE-E-82
The owner of a Bedfordshire farm has been prosecuted for failing to complete legally required documentation in relation to safe working near overhead power cables. Bedford Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday (17 May) that on 23 June 2010 an employee of Davison & Co (Barford) Ltd, the owners of College Farm in Great Barford, was tipping compost from a lorry trailer into a field when the trailer came into contact with a live 33kV power line overhead. No-one was injured, but a subsequent investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found the company had neglected to complete essential, legal documentation relating to the line. This is required to inform both employees and regulators of the existence of the hazard so that appropriate steps and controls can be put in place to keep workers safe. Davison & Co (Barford) Ltd, of College Farm, Great Barford admitted breaching Regulation 3(1) of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 in relation to the offence, and was fined £1,500 and ordered to pay £500 in costs. The company was found not guilty of breaching Regulation 4(3) of the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 in connection to the tipper lorry incident. After the hearing, HSE Inspector Stephen Faulkner said: "It is an employer’s duty to complete all legally required documentation to ensure that necessary steps to protect workers from risk are communicated formally to all relevant parties, including the workers themselves."

UnoJoy makes your Arduino play well with Xbox 360 or PS3 – Hack a Day
|
We’ve seen Arduino-based game controllers before, but the UnoJoy project wants to make it easy for you to plug them into a gaming console. The project is targeted at the Arduino UNO. Why only that hardware… isn’t Arduino universal? Well yes, but in this case the bootloader needs to be overwritten so that the Arduino will enumerate as an approved controller on your game system. Here the device is being put into DFU mode in preparation for flashing. Once that part’s done it’s time to get to work on your own hardware interface. The UnoJoy library provides all of the hooks you need to push controller data to the game console, it’s up to you to use the Arduino IDE to decide when these events happen. This would be a great opportunity to make the Pinball Stop controllers work with the Xbox Live Arcade games. Or take a look after the break to see [Alan Chatham] using the library to control Gran Turismo as if it were an NES Power Pad game.

While Mobile and Consoles “Fight,” the PC Market Thrives
You’ve done it before playing Deathmatch. You’ve come upon two enemies shooting it out while you hang back to pick off the victor, now hanging on to life by a thread. This image continues to spring to mind whenever I hear a mobile developer or console platform holder sniping back and forth about the true impact of iOS and Android gaming. That guy hanging back? That’s the PC market. You thought it was dead, put it out of your mind, but it’s the one that’s gonna get ya. Of course, just like real war, there is no winner here. There are only losers, and most of them are the people that actually pay for the games. This isn’t the first time someone in the mobile segment (and, let’s be clear that it is all the same industry) has predicted the death of the home console. Each time I hear this, I wonder how these people can’t see how counterproductive the infighting is. Most recently, MCV conducted an interview with John Schappert, now with Zynga but formerly of EA and Microsoft’s Xbox Live division. In that interview, Schappert stated that, “Traditional games have become more core. They require an expensive console, use a controller which laymen are afraid of, and their interfaces are not always the easiest to use.” This statement assumes a zero sum approach. Nintendo has already defied that logic with the Wii, introducing thousands of new households to gaming and, in direct contrast to this statement, console gaming specifically. There is room in the world for social and mobile gaming alongside console gaming. Sure, the Ven diagram shows some overlap, but that doesn’t mean that it has to be an either/or proposition. Additionally, this argument still neglects the third, looming presence. PC gaming is alive and well, and frankly, if the number of buttons on a controller scare a layperson, manipulating a keyboard and mouse must be the stuff of nightmares. It seems, though, that many people are conquering their fears. According to the PC Gaming Alliance report issued in March 2012, that segment of the market grew by 15% over 2010 to $18.7 billion. In fairness, approximately $500,000 of the $2.44 million growth is represented by Zynga, the remaining almost $2 million is largely due to core games like Star Wars: The Old Republic, Battlefield 3, Skyrim and other marquee titles. It is also important to remember that the PC Gaming Alliance is a trade association, so while the statistics may be correct, be aware of bias in the way they are framed. Furthermore, according to a BBC report, Zynga’s acquisition of OMGPOP! (Draw Something) could be blowing up in the mobile giant’s face. WebMediaBrands, a company that monitors Facebook connection to mobile apps, has stated that based on their analysis, Draw Something’s daily usership has dropped from 14.3 to 10.4 million people. It’s likely that a combination of growing anti-Zynga sentiment, and the harsh words of OMGPOP!’s CEO toward a member of the staff who opted not to follow the company after the buyout, have contributed to the exodus. There are a lot of moving pieces in the industry, and we’re in a state of transition. One console generation is coming to and end, with the next set to begin this fall. Nintendo has already been working to increase a touch-based and, reportedly, mobile element to their next home console. It would be unsurprising if Microsoft and Sony didn’t acknowledge the growing mobile audience in some way, much like they’ve done to broaden the appeal of their platforms as entertainment devices. Put simply, it’s too early to pronounce any platform dead on the scene. Just ask any of the growing number of PC gamers. Michael Futter is the Managing Editor of @RipTen. A Brief History Of Computer Games
In the 1980s, most serious gamers could be found at the local arcade putting coins into arcade games such as Outrun, Street Fighter and R-Type. At the same time, the first home computer games began to appear, first the Sinclair ZX-81 and later the Sinclair Spectrum and Commodore C64. These computers loaded games from cassette tape but were cheap to buy, and many families could afford to have a games machine in the home for the first time. Games were controlled either via the computer keyboard, or by joysticks with one fire button which could be plugged in peripherally to the computer. The 1990s saw many home users move on to 16-bit home computers such as the Commodore Amiga and Atari ST. Priced slightly higher than the older 8-bit machines, yet still affordable for most families, the Amiga and ST had more memory than their predecessors and loaded games from 3.5 inch floppy disk drives. This meant that users could enjoy much faster loading times for their games, as well as significantly faster games with better graphics and sound. At around the same time, the first home games consoles began to appear, with the Sega Master System and Nintendo 64 being the most popular. These were then superseded by 16-bit consoles, the Sega Megadrive and Super Nintendo or SNES. The console games were stored on cartridge meaning they loaded almost instantly, however the games themselves were more expensive than comparable games for the Amiga and ST. In the late 1990s, the 16-bit home computers began to die out as more and more people were able to own a home PC, which they could also use for games. At the same time, consoles also took another step forward with the first Sony PlayStations being released, offering enhanced graphics and levels of game play that had never been seen previously. As PC ownership became more widespread, the console manufacturers faced an ongoing challenge to make their machines popular. They have responded by producing ever more advanced consoles. The Nintendo Wii is one example, which introduced a new concept of wireless controllers which respond to human movement. At the same time, the internet began to play a major part in everyday life and gaming has embraced this as you might expect. Now, players with consoles or PCs can join in distributed multi-player games with either their own friends, or with perfect strangers located anywhere across the world. It is no longer necessary to even own a physical copy of the game being played, as was the case in the old days. Games can now be played entirely online, in some cases free of charge. Gaming has certainly come a long way since the days of the ZX Spectrum, and one can only begin to speculate what changes will have occurred in another 30 years

On Party Entertainers and Children’s Pirate Games
It is easy to picture the kids’ entertainer in a typical situation, the children all distracted, captivated in a corner somewhere by this man (usually) and his exaggerated silliness, his calculatedly absurd behaviour, his jokes and his repertoire of magic stunts and tricks. Balloons, funny tales and daft noises, painted frowns and raspberries all combine with the objective of capturing the child’s attention solely for the entertainer, whose brief it is to keep them all amused for the duration either of the children’s party, or indeed of the grown-ups’ activity that is taking place simultaneously somewhere nearby. The successful children’s entertainer needs of course to be able to do all these things, but there is so much more involved too if one is to really fire the imagination of the child and to hold it throughout the session. Children are famously vulnerable to distraction and wild excitement very quickly descends into boredom, often without any neutral state reporting present in-between, if the correct balance between originality and familiarity isn’t maintained throughout. So rather than being a mere series of individual tricks and stunts the entertainer’s portfolio in reality comprises a continuous performance, a set of individual punch lines that blend seamlessly into one enthralling story, rather in the manner of a stand-up comedian. One bout of hilarity will flow naturally from the previous one, incentivising the audience to keep up with the story throughout. It is an art that is picked up from practical experience as well as being drawn from the entertainer’s own resources of natural talent. The outcome should be a consistently successful delivery over a period of an hour or however long the clown, the magician, has been entrusted to keep the children amused. The magic of the successful children’s entertainer (no pun intended) then is that ability to hold the child’s attention and to retain it throughout the show. But sadly the show needs to end sometime, and when we behold the expression of joy upon our child’s face we find we are wishing that we could bottle whatever it is that the children’s entertainer has and open it up in our living rooms throughout the school holidays to keep them occupied and amused. Sadly nobody yet has been able to capture it all in a bottle, although the next best thing may be to share the secrets and the thrill of the show through some form of modern media such as CDs, as well of course as the more traditional merchandise and books. A show with a pirate theme, for example, might find its way into our own living rooms through the purchase of pirate party bags, pirate games and the like. Keeping the active mind of a young child focused is a permanent and quite thankless task for which we sometimes really can use all the help we can get. Related Posts:

Samsung I9000 Galaxy S Unlocked GSM Smartphone – 5 MP Camera, Wi-Fi, Android
The Samsung I9000 S Unlocked GSM Smartphone illustrates why this consumer electronics firm has become the force it is today. First, it is a dual-band phone that operates both GSM and EDGE/GPRS. It operates in HSDPA mode in the 900, 1900 and 2100 MHz bands, while it operates in EDGE/GPRS mode in the 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 modes. These are the primary modes used by AT&T and T-Mobile. These modes are not compatible with CDMA phones such as those offered by Sprint or Nextel. Powered by a 1 GHz microprocessor, the I9000 can be equipped with up to 32 GB of memory, using standard microSD memory cards. The beauty of this type of memory is that it offers one a host of providers such as PNY or Kingston so one can order the memory needed at the best price possible. Honestly, it’s best to equip the I9000 with the maximum amount of memory possible because the more memory it has access to the faster it runs. Further, the memory issue becomes crucial as you open more apps and keep them open, while using the smartphone. For example, if you have a full calendar of events and have to keep the calendar displayed, it does take a bit of memory to ensure that it happens. However, let’s say that at some point you want to send and email. Just opening the email app and its editor require further memory and if you are operating, as one would expect in WiFi mode (802.11 b/g/n recognized), you begin to find that you are really pushing the envelope at 8 GB of memory, while 16 GB offers better performance. When you hit 32 GB, you are ready to play in the big leagues as you will be able to not only keep your calendar open, but also your email application, along with your WiFi application. One of the interesting features of the I9000 is that it can actually become part of your home or office network, if your router recognizes 802.11 b/g/n. If it does, your smartphone can become a networked device that will operate in peer-to-peer mode. In this way, you can not only keep your emails updated automatically, but you can download and read memos in real-time. And, if you are away from your cube for an extended period, but within the reach of your network, you can still respond to urgent emails or create and edit memos or small documents and route them to the proper recipients. Outside the office, the I9000 will, like other Samsung smartphones, locate mobile hotspots so that you can stay in touch with your office. At home, you will find the I9000 is much more than just a smartphone. It can operate as a very nice alarm clock by providing you with a tone or audio tone that you find will wake you up without nicely. Also, you’ll find that it offers Flash Lite 3.1 as its standard browser and it will also allow you to have several screens or applications open at one time so you can surf the net, read a news report or financial report or respond to a work memo. Once you are finished with work, you can use the camera for a wide variety of high-definition items including video, where its 1280 by 720 resolution and 30 frame per second mode let you view high-definition video in almost 3D mode. The I9000 offers a rich palette of colors and recognizes these video modes: DivX, Xvid, MPEG64 H.263/H.264, WMV, VC-1, 3gp (MP4) 3gp (divx), MKV, FLV H.263 Sorenson. On the audio side, the I9000 recognizes such high-definition sound modes as MP3, AAC, AAC+, OGG, WMA, AMR-NB, WAVE, MID, AG3, lMY, FLAC and XMF. You can access these modes through the I9000′s 3.5 mm audio jack. It also features Samsung’s Sound Alive system which delivers concert quality audio to your smartphone. As you can see, this phone, which not only recognizes the angle you are viewing it at, but also will operate in either 2G mode for 769 minutes or 391 minutes in 3G mode. In standby, the 1500 mah Li-pol offers up to 750 hours of standby time in 2G mode or 625 hours in 3G mode. At 4.82 by 2.53 by 0.39 inches and 4.16 ounces this aMOLED touch-screen device is easy to use as it allows you to pinch and open videos quickly, while allowing you fine videography with a 5MP autofocus camera that offers multiple modes such as a self-shot, action shot, an add me, where you can add an image of yourself to an already composed image. Two other modes are the cartoon shot, where you can make your image into a cartoon representation of yourself and a smile shot that will take multiple images of a person and takes the one if finds smiling. You will find this and more In the I9000, including its Smart Alarm feature, a Daily Briefing feature where you are presented with a daily briefing of information that you choose and indicate to your I9000 is important. All in all, the I9000 is quite a smartphone and shows why Samsung is a leader in its market.
